The word leader means to lead. Not all those in positions of leadership have the qualities of a leader. Leadership is different from title. A person can be in a position, but doesn't know how to lead. He/she may be qualified for that position, but lacks the ability to lead people or an organization.

Leadership is beyond being in a position. Some leaders are mostly concerned about their status and position. Thy are conscious of the fact that they are in charge of the people, organization, office etc, that they leave their primary duty and focus on being in charge. Leading is not about being in charge, but about taking care of those in our charge.

The job of a leader is to primarily take care of the people they are leading. 

As a leader, there are certain qualities you need to possess or have to succeed.

A great leader knows how to inspire and lead a person or people to achieve their goal(s).

A great leader thinks out of the box. 

He knows how to create optism in his followers.

They create a visual picture of a goal and work towards bringing it to actualization.

They are positive and practical thinkers.

They are careful about details.

They have new ideas and develop new ways of achieving their goals.

Great leaders make their followers to be committed by showing them passion and druve. They make them understand why they need to follow them, to achieve their aims and objectives. 

A great leader must always think of how to better their followers and bring the best out of them.

A great leader is thoughtful. He is a great thinker. He thinks ahead of others he's leading.

1. Increase your capacity to acquire knowledge.

2. Be open to criticisms.

3. Let your motives be right.

4. Keep learning never stop. LEARN, UNLEARN and RELEARN.

5. Appreciate the contributions of those you lead.

6. Give room for appraisal.

7. Avoid negative attitudes and mannerisms in front of those you are leading. Maintain positivity always.

8. Be a good listener.

9. Be liberal in your leadership.
Delegate duties to those you are leading.

10. Communicate realistic and clear expectations.

11. Don't be bias or partial. Do not have favorites amongst those you are leading. Treat everyone equally.

12. Develop your followers. Inspire them to do well.

13. Learn how to handle failure, without giving up. If you fail today and try again tomorrow, chances are that you will succeed. 

14. Build confidence in those you are leading. Let them know that they can 
always count on your leadership 

15. Be proactive. Think ahead and plan towards the progress of the group you are leading .




16. Always set goals (short and long term) that you intend to achieve in a short while and in the future.

17.  Find out ways to proffer solution(s) to issues facing the group you are leading.

18. Be guided by rules and regulations in the group.

19. Be confident and bold in your demeanor.

20. Use your discretion (common sense) to do certain things. Take the lead at  solving immediate issue(s). Find the solution to any urgent issue, that needs instant solution.

21. Seek to always Improve on what is on ground.

22. Be willing and ready to explore and learn new ways of doing things.

23. Be open to CHANGE. Change they say is the only constant thing in life. Keep changing the MODUS OPERANDI of the group you are leading, to avoid monotony and boredom and to avoid being obsolete.

24. As a leader, be emotionally and not only intellectually intelligent.

WHAT IS EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE (EQ)

Emotional intelligence has to do with the ability to understand people's feelings and how their feelings shape their thoughts and actions. At its simplest, people with emotional intelligence don’t assume that everyone will interpret or respond to situations just like them. 

A HEQ leader has a listening ear and a shoulder to cry on. He has the right words to say to each of his follower, to motivate them to greatness. He treats his followers as individuals and finds a way to unify everyone despite their differences.
