HOW TO MAINTAIN YOUR KEY WHILE SINGING. HOW NOT TO SING OFF KEY.

I've often said it, that everyone can sing. As long as you have an audible voice and can be heard, that means you can sing.
You just have to learn the act and art of singing and you are on your way to the top. And also, there are levels or heights of music/singing you may or may not reach, except you put in enough effort to become excellent.

I just  want you to be aware, that there are levels and heights in music. Some are excellent singers, some are good, some are bad, while some are ugly singers.

The worst tone-deaf singer can learn to sing in tune and become a good singer.

There are some tips I'll be teaching you here to help you maintain a balance, if you are tone-deaf. They will help you to learn to sing in tune.

Most bad Singers are TONE DEAF. That means they can't distinguish between tones or identify notes or tones, which makes them sing off the key being played on an instrument.

And that is the main reason why they sing off key.

The best way to cure a TONE DEAF singer, is to help his ability to listen to tones, notes and tunes.

You may have a beautiful voice like that of a Nightingale, it will not matter at all, if you lack the ability to sing in tune. If you have issues with pitching and tuning, them you need to tackle that first. If not, every effort you make in learning new songs and performing them will be a waste of time, effort and energy.

Work on your pitching and tuning ability and every other thing would fall in place for you as a singer. Singing in tune is very important, if you are to make any headway or progress as a singer.

WHAT TO DO:👇

Take a tone deafness test (tone deafness test) to ensure your ears are capable of letting you sing in tune.

All singers have their own natural voice range, which they are comfortable to sing with. Some have high range, while others have low voice range.

The vocal cords are elastic in nature. You can stretch it to a limit, which means as a singer, you can sing and change tunes, as long as you can coordinate the rising and falling of your tune.

There are two main factors that determines whether you can sing in tune or not:

1. Vocal Control

Making your vocal chords reliably produce the note you want them to, is important, but your voice is actually only about 20% of the challenge of singing in tune. In fact the far more significant factor is.

2. Your ears

80% of singing in tune relies on hearing what pitch you are singing, and what pitch you should be singing.

Having some sense of pitch in your ears, is one good thing you can do to help yourself as a singer. If you pay attention very well, you can probably hear when someone asks a question, their voice “goes up” at the end. And also, you'd notice that a female pitch is higher in tune than a male's. Improve on this ability of pitching through pitch ear training, it is very important for you to have a strong sensitivity to pitch as a musician and singer.

To be able to sing the correct note, you must first know what that note is! This means hearing the note before you sing it.

Learn to have the right pitch in your head, then practice singing the right pitch out loud.

To sound good as a singer, you need to hit each note’s pitch dead-on, right from the beginning, and hold it steady. Otherwise it will sound like you are singing wrong notes (a.k.a. “singing off key”) or that your voice is unsteady and wobbly.

LEARN TO MATCH

You can begin pitch training for singing by learning to “match pitch”: meaning to sing back a single note you hear. This is the first step towards reliably vocal control, and it’s the simplest possible task: just one note on its own. The great thing is it develops both your ears and your voice.

Practicing matching pitch is simple: play a note and try to sing it back.

THE FOLLOWING ARE SOME WAYS TO HELP A SINGER AVOID SINGING OFF KEY.

1. Singing on tonic solfa, 2 octave forth and back. (do, re, mi, fa, so, la, to, do, re, mi, fa, so, la, to, do).

2. Let an instrunatalist play a song for you as you sing, then modulate (change from one low key to a high one again and again), to different keys, as you sing, back and forth.

3. Listen to songs done by different artistes on different pitches and notes and sing along with them. (Karaoke).

4. Cover both of your ears with your fingers and sing as the keyboardist plays.

5. Hum a tone on tonic solfa and modulate from one key to anotherbas you him.

6. Try to mime along with a piece of music done by a professional, who has a different voice texture than yours.

7. Record yourself and listen to your recorded song andjudge yourself.

All these and more would help to develop your music ear and cute you of being TINE DEAF.
